CSAR Class C ‘West Australian’, ex IMR ex West Australian Government Railway, diverted to South Africa to relieve the locomotive shortage during the Anglo-Boer War. Scrapped at Unification, except No 209 which was sold to Clydesdale Colliery where it worked for many years.
NZASM 19 tonner Class, No's 9-14 built by Manning Wardale & Co in 1890 for CFLM, later CSAR No's 606-611.
From this photograph, one can assume that it was taken at night to demonstrate the brightness of the Pyle National Arc Headlamp fitted to a CSAR 8th class. Although it gave an excellent light they did not enjoy a long life, replaced shortly after with the tungsten filament bulb that became standard on the SAR.

NGR 2-6-0T No 503, built by Beyer Peacock & Co No 1704 in 1877. Later sold to OVSS/CSAR for construction, after 1910 renumbered No 0503.
1904. CSAR Class M No 995-996 rack locomotives. They were built by Vulcan Foundry No 1942-1943 of 1906. They were not a success and the rack drives were removed and then used for shunting. In 1910 they were renumbered 0995-0996 but were scrapped in 1912.
