Pietermaritzburg district, 1967. Three SAR Class 1E's with a coal train on the Mpushini viaduct heading for Durban. The viaduct, 375 metres long, 30,5 metres high on an 805-metre radius curve, is located between Ashburton and Tunnel No.3. The new double-track alignment opened on 5 December 1965 between Umlaas Road and Pentrich.
