The Cape Government Railway contracted to build the line from Colesberg to Kroonstad in the Orange Free State. For this they used a Cape 1st Class engine No 123 shown here on a small trestle bridge. (Brounger Collection No 11)

1940. Starting life as Cape 1st Class 2-6-0 tender engines, 10 of these were converted to 2-6-0ST. Five survived and were sold to the PEHB. In 1910 they became Cape 1st Class including this No 0416.

1880. Cape 1st Class Neilson 4-4-0TT. Their tenders were coupled with bell buffers and when needed they could be simply uncoupled making them tank engines.

Colesberg, 1898. Cape 1st Class No 448 used between Colesberg Junction and the town, affectionately known as the 'Colesberg Buster'. In 1910 was renumbered SAR Class 01 No 0448.
