1904. CSAR Class M No 995-996 rack locomotives. They were built by Vulcan Foundry No 1942-1943 of 1906. They were not a success and the rack drives were removed and then used for shunting. In 1910 they were renumbered 0995-0996 but were scrapped in 1912.

The first locomotives ordered for the NGR were these Beyer Peacock Ltd engines No.1702-1706 on 1877. NGR Class K No's 1-4 later renumbered 501-504, three survived to 1910 as 0502-0504.
